While I am as appalled at the Connecticut shooting as everyone else, it really disgusts me how the politicians, namely the Pres. have taken the opportunity to grandstand, and extort the deaths of these children to go after the second amendment. Most of us know the administration HATES the fact that about 50% of all households in America have at least one firearm on the premises. While the tragedy is just that, a tragedy, the gun DID NOT shoot itself. The man behind the gun loaded the weapon and pulled the trigger. The second amendment was put into place by our founding fathers to protect we the people from exactly what the federal govt. is becoming, a dictatorship. Obama has signed quite a few executive orders, without letting our congress (the real lawmakers) even see them. He has declared wars without congressional approval, which is illegal. Only congress can authorize an act of war (ie bombing a country, such as Libya), but he continues to sidestep them despite threats of impeachment. He has lied to us COUNTLESS times about the NDAA, the health care act, taxes, jobs growth, the list is a mile long. He has raised our national deficit ONE TRILLION dollars per year, in the first 4 years of his administration. We are headed for bankruptcy VERY quickly. Under no president have we as a country ever lost our AAA credit rating. He sure made his mark in history, didn't he? Not that any other presidents were all great, but he sure has them beat on many fronts. They have brainwashed half of the people as to what constitutes an assault weapon, when the definition of such weapons is quite clear to people who know what the actual definition is.
If we continue to allow these people to slowly, but surely usurp our rights and liberties, we will be no better off than any other communist country. They do not seem to understand that you cannot ban crazy. You cannot ban evil. You cannot ban people, and their thought process. If you take away a person's God given, inalienable right to defend themselves, you create a submissive society in which violence and crime are free to breed. Take, for example the "gun-free zone" signs out side of our schools. What does this impress upon a would-be predator? It tells them there is nothing to stop them from acquiring their prey, and doing as they freely choose. There is a famous quote by one of our founders, Benjamin Franklin, who states "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty". This holds true more than ever today. The government cannot protect your safety, and anyone who tells you different is either a liar, or a simpleton.
This government, like many before it, wants us disarmed so they can have complete control. That is how a dictatorship works. There is no turning back if we allow them to take away our rights, especially the right of not only self preservation, but defense against tyranny, the very essence of total power. Freedom is a God given birthright, not a privilege granted by a politician, we need to remember that. When I stand before my creator on my judgement day, I want to be sure I at the very least stood with the side of right in the face of tyranny and oppression.
I would urge anyone that thinks the second amendment should be done away with to first ponder this: If a person armed with a gun enters your home with ill intent towards you and your family, how would you defend against them? Remember, there is no second amendment anymore because you voted to repeal it (hypothetically), how would you defend yourself and family against certain death?
